Ingredients
- 300g chicken breast, cut into cubes
- 1 egg
- 1 cup plain flour
- 1 tbsp garlic purée
- 1 tbsp ginger purée
- Salt, to taste
- 2 tbsp toasted sesame seed oil
- ½ cup chilli sauce
- ½ cup ketchup
- 2 tbsp soy sauce
- 8-10 bao buns
- Spring onions, sliced
- Red chilli, sliced
- Sesame seeds
- Coriander, chopped
- Vegetable oil, for frying
Method
Step 1
In a bowl, combine the chicken cubes with garlic purée, ginger purée, and salt. Mix well and rub over the chicken to marinate.Step 2
Add the egg to the marinated chicken and mix thoroughly.Step 3
Coat each chicken cube in the plain flour, ensuring they are fully covered.Step 4
Heat vegetable oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Fry the floured chicken cubes until golden brown and crispy. Remove and set aside.Step 5
For the sauce, in a separate pan, heat the toasted sesame seed oil. Add the chilli sauce, ketchup, and soy sauce. Mix well and cook for 1 minute.Step 6
Add the fried chicken to the sauce and stir until each piece is thoroughly coated. Add the chopped coriander.Step 7
Steam the bao buns according to package instructions.Step 8
Fill each steamed bao bun with the firecracker chicken. Garnish with sliced spring onions, sliced red chilli, and sesame seeds. Serve immediately.
