Morrisons The Best Block Series 013 Medoc

The grapes for this wine cone from a Domaine whose origins trace back over 350 years. It was a time before any vines had been planted, and the whole of the Médoc was largely marshland. A herculean effort to drain the land revealed gravelly soils, perfect for growing Cabernet Sauvignon, leading to the first vines being planted on the estate in the early 1700's. The block for this particular cuvée is in the northernmost reaches of the Médoc, halfway between the mouth of the Gironde estuary and the North Atlantic. This influence is notable in the wine as traditional flavours of cassis, red cherries and clove are carried with great energy and poise. The finish is long and purposeful with lingering notes of liquorice and dark chocolate.
