Anciano Rioja comes from leading producer Criadores de Rioja located near Logroño, at the heart of Rioja. The winery belongs to a family with one of the longest traditions in Rioja winemaking and our winemaker has access to some of the finest wines in the region.

Rioja Oriental (Eastern Rioja) sub-region, near the villages of Alberite and Villamediana de Iregua, where traditional bush vines are cultivated on gravel and sandy soils. The climate here is influenced particularly by the Mediterranean, so it is largely drier and warmer than other parts of Rioja. But for the higher altitude vineyards, temperatures are cooler and the north wind means dry conditions during both summer and winter months.

Mature vines are sustainably grown in premium high altitude (300-500m) vineyards on gravel and sandy soils. Hand-harvested when perfectly ripe in September. After careful de-stemming and gentle crushing, the selected grapes are fermented for 10 days in stainless steel tanks with the temperature controlled at 28-30°C.
