Ingredients

  • 1 tsp of white caster sugar
  • 500 g of strong white bread flour 
  • 7 g of easy bake yeast
  • 15 g of unsalted butter
  • 1 tsp of salt

Method

  1. Step 1

    Pre-heat your oven to 230°C, 210°C Fan.
  2. Step 2

    Mix the flour, salt and sugar in bowl. Rub in the butter and add the yeast and stir.
  3. Step 3

    In the centre of the flour make a well and add 300ml warm water. Mix until into a soft dough. Take out the dough put onto a lightly floured surface and knead until smooth and elastic, this will take up to 10 minutes.
  4. Step 4

    Work into loaf shape and put into a greased loaf tin, or shape to a round loaf on a baking tray.
  5. Step 5

    Cover the dough with a damp tea cloth and leave to rise in a warm place for about 45 minutes- 1 hour or until the dough has doubled in size.
  6. Step 6

    Sprinkle the top of the dough with a small amount of flour and place in the centre of the pre-heated oven and bake for 15 minutes then reduce the oven temperature to 200°c, 180°C fan and cook for a further 15-20 minutes until the bread is risen and golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped underneath.
