Easy Panettone Layer Cake with Spiced Buttercream Icing

It's hard to improve on a panettone, but this recipe might just do so. The Christmas classic gets a spiced buttercream upgrade to make it even more irresistible.Time and servings

Ingredients
- 750g Morrisons The Best Classic Fruit Panettone
- 100g toasted hazelnuts roughly chopped
- Icing sugar for dusting
- 275g butter softened
- 2 tbsp milk
- ½ tsp vanilla extract
- ¾ tsp mixed spice
- ¾ tsp ground ginger
- 1 orange, zested
Method
Step 1
Slice the Morrisons The Best Classic Fruit Panettone through the equator into six thin slices. Set aside. For the buttercream, beat the butter, icing sugar, milk and vanilla together until smooth and creamy, then mix in the spices and orange zest.Step 2
Put the base slice of panettone on a serving plate and spread over a fifth of the buttercream. Scatter over a fifth of the hazelnuts, then top with another slice of panettone. Repeat until all the buttercream and hazelnuts have been used, finishing with the top slice of panettone. Dust over a little icing sugar before serving.
