Product Information

Sauvignon Blanc, the extrovert of the white grape family, thrives in the diverse climates of the South West of Western Australia, from temperate maritime to cool continental. This adaptability results in a delightful wine, delivering an array of classic and exotic characteristics such as citrus, gooseberry, quince, passion fruit, elderflower, sweet herbs, lemon curd, anise, and blackcurrant bud. Always upfront, fresh, lively, and highly aromatic, it embodies the very antithesis of subtlety.
MadFish Sauvignon Blanc, crafted from vineyards in Margaret River and Great Southern, showcases the region's signature white wine style. With its dynamic and appealing profile, MadFish exemplifies how South West Western Australia excels in producing exceptional Sauvignon Blanc.

Regional Information

Margaret River has more of a moderate climate compared to the cooler Great Southern region. Therefore, the grapes from Margaret River will be slightly riper, exhibiting more tropical fruit aromas while the Great Southern fruit possesses higher acidity and floral notes – when mixed together it is the perfect balance between the two.

Tasting Notes

Wonderfully fragrant aromas of passionfruit and guava greet the nose, with underlying notes of dried sage and lemon verbena adding complexity. Initial flavours of gooseberry and stone fruit are balanced by a richer mid-palate of tropical fruits such as lychee, leading to a long, fine citrus finish of lemon and grapefruit.

Vinification Details

Cooler temperatures and dry weather created ideal conditions for a long but exceptional vintage in Margaret River and Great Southern. Winter rains replenished soil moisture and dams, setting the stage for the growing season. A mild spring with late budburst was followed by warm, dry conditions that benefited flowering, canopy growth, and fruit set in Margaret River. Great Southern had cooler, wetter weather, leading to lower yields but fuller ripeness at harvest. Throughout summer, dry, warm weather allowed for steady ripening, with harvest spanning from 16 February to 22 April. Minimal rain kept the fruit on the vine for optimal ripeness and flavor, while cooling winds preserved acidity and freshness. Late summer rain delayed the red harvest slightly but caused no disease pressure, instead refreshing the vines. Overall, it was another high-quality year, similar to 2022.
