Think of Burgundy and most of us think of red wine, yet a white Burgundy has loads to offer. There's a wonderfully spicy, slightly smokey base with a hint of zingy grapefruit. It's great with oily fish like salmon or something decadent and creamy.

With a wine as good as Burgundy, you could forgive the French for trying to keep it to themselves. But way back in the 14th century, the cat was out of the bag and the rest of the world got a taste for this 'wine of kings'. White Burgundy is made with Chardonnay grapes so it's fruity and dry but there's also something else. Have a sip and you'll find a spicy, slightly smokey taste filling your mouth that's just great with roast chicken or grilled mackerel. Try it with dishes such as carbonara or risotto too, as the hint of grapefruit balances out the creaminess beautifully. It's also fine for vegetarians and vegans.
