Bought as a treat in the hot summer of '22, as a reminder of the tasty yet (hopefully) healthy sandwich fillings I enjoyed many years ago. Always thought this was the best flavour, and it's still great. However was shocked when it went mouldy in the jar while still in cold fridge, this never used to happen, blamed it on the hot weather. However bought another jar early winter, and this one went mouldier even sooner, so again half the jar wasted. Yes, it was in fridge longer than the "3 days" quoted life, but really... ?. Guess the modern recipe hasn't got the same "unhealthy" stuff it used to contain, but even so this was a real surprise.
Great on wholemeal toast for breakfast. Half a jar for 2 slices. I add a few leaves of wold rocket for another fix of goodness.
This is a lovely tasty and economical product. A good way of getting a bit of oily fish into a child's diet too. I enjoy this on toast in the morning with a good cup of tea.
Lovely taste, spread it on hot wholemeal toast, almost tastes like pate
I’m trying to get more oily fish into my diet and this little pot of spread is great. It can sit in the cupboard for as long as you like, and is easily consumed within the 3 days it recommends once opened. But if any is left, I smear it in my dog’s kong toy as a treat :) I’m not a fan of tinned sardines or pilchards in tomato sauce (plain are good though!), but I really like this spread on toast for breakfast. The flavour is really savoury and fishy without being too fishy. Fish content (sardine, plus salmon frame and sprats as fillers I guess) is higher than the named brand. For 25p, it is definitely worth anyone’s money.
I was first surprised at how small the jar is, but as the spread has a robust taste it only needs to be spread sparingly. Went well with some nice crisp lettuce.
