History
Moldova has a rich history of wine making traditions that starts in 3000 BC, while the first vines were recorded in the country 7000 years BC. Wine was used as a medium of exchange and a trophy awarded after fights, which has made the wine a national product of Moldova. Viticulture is deeply ingrained in Moldova's culture and the country's wineries gained worldwide fame for the diversity and huge range of wine offerings. Most of the country's wine production is for export.
Regional Information
Moldova is situated in the South-East of Europe, between Ukraine and Romania, in the Black Sea basin. Its wines are emblematic thanks to the specific local terroir and its moderately-continental climate that is perfect for producing outstanding grapes. There are 4 historical wine regions: Valul lui Traian (south west), Stefan Voda (south east), Codru (center), and Balti (North) and these are famed for producing different styles of wines.
Vinification Details
These grapes were carefully selected, hand picked and pressed in pneumatic presses. Fermentation took place for 8-10 days in stainless steel tanks. The wine is unoaked to ensure the fruit driven nature of the final product is preserved.
