A complex red wine with flavours of ripe plum, blackberry and spice

Chile is a true rarity in the wine world. Unique geographic & climatic forces have allowed it to remain one of very few grape growing regions in the world where the original European rootstocks survive, unaffected by phylloxera - the disease that forced grape growers worldwide to graft vines onto generic rootstocks. Chile's isolation, protected by the mighty Andes to the East and the vast expanse of the Pacific Ocean to the West, ensures that grape vines can remain on the original rootstock, in the purest form. These same geographic characteristics provide Chile's fertile central region with optimal climate & soil conditions to produce consistent and outstanding grapes each year. This Root: 1 Carmenere is carefully crafted exclusively from grapes grown on the original, ungrafted root systems tended by our Master Winemakers. This gives the wine its pure, rich fruit flavours & aromas.

Intense violet in color with ripe aromas of blackberries and warm spice. Full-bodied and fruit-forward with plum, cherry and a hint of smoke. Smooth tannins and good structure create perfect balance and a powerful finish with notes of vanilla.
Colchagua Valley is a fairly new wine-producing region in Chile when compared with the historical Maipo Valley. Most of the region's modern winemaking facilities have been constructed with wine tourism in mind, and as a result, Colchagua Valley is enjoying a growing reputation as Chile's 'Napa Valley'.
Regional Information
Colchagua Valley, in central Chile, is one of South America's most promising wine regions. It forms the south-western half of the larger Rapel Valley region; to the north and east of it lies the less famous but equally promising Cachapoal Valley. Some of Chile's finest red wines are made in the valley, mostly from Cabernet Sauvignon, Carmenere and Syrah.

Everything you want at this price

A real bargain when it's on offer at £6, as a previous reviewer said it ticks all the boxes. Smooth, lovely bouquet, substance and a bit of style. It's very drinkable and has the power to stand up to spicy food, Goes great with enchiladas, chilli, cheese, or anything hearty.

Great value for money

I have been aware for many years that Chile makes some excellent wines from the Carmenere grape while Argentina is a good bet for wines made from the Malbec grape. This wine from Chile really ticks all the boxes when it comes to bouquet, depth of flavour and colour. Great with mature cheese. Will be buying another few bottles when I go back to my local Morrison's at the weekend.

Root 1

A nice red colour. Once aerated it has a delightful bouquet, and has a potent sweet and fruity nose with a hint of oak. It is sweet and fruity on the palate - with a smooth aftertaste. It is defiantly quaffable - the aeration brings out the flavours of the wine. There is a distinct taste of blackberry and plum on the tongue with a hint of spice. The wine has a definite depth and structure. This wine is perfect for a small soiree, with a cheese board and cold meats.
