Negroamaro label 2021, bought Dec 2022
I see some others reviews mention that the wine is a bit pungent and lacks smoothness. The issue it depends a lot on when it was harvested and unfortunately this Morrisons label doesn't tell us that. However Negroamaro is rarely sold very aged unless it's for special reserve so it's always going to have that peak of acidity when you first sip it. Negroamaro grape is known for its fierce tannins, and depending on the rest of the grapes used to mix with it and weather it does offer a good balance. This is what I found with this 2021 bottle. The first taste was a spunky opener to flowery reddish flavours, the dark cherries of a torrid summer and all the richness of San Marzano soils. Negroamaro cannot be expected to have the heavy body of an aged Cahors. I wasn't expecting too much out of a bottle that for commercial reasons and regulations cannot carry any seals, nor gives details of year of harvest but it was a very pleasant surprise of a young Negroamaro with lots of scents & warmth.
incredibly good value
It is really well balanced, beautiful wine with a gorgeous blackcurrant blast. And at this price, it's fantastic value.
red Italian full bodied
I like full bodied dark red wines , but was disappointed with this one, as although it is ful bodied,it is very young and harsh. No refinement at all, all upfront berry flavour, with a fierce sharp afterburn. I normally like e red with some bite to it , but this lacks a depth of flavour, all up front., with little follow through. Plenty of better wine out there at this price point, so cannot understand how this is a Morrison's Best.
Disappointing
Having had some lovely smooth Negroamaro in a Richmond Italian restaurant I decided to buy some in Morrisons when in Ealing today. I went for the 3 for £20 offer which seemed good value. However when a tried some this evening I was very disappointed as the wine was rather astringent and lacking smoothness. If that is Morrisons best Negroamaro I shudder to think what their worst is like. I plan to attempt to return the remaining bottles to Morrisons asap.
lovely wine
One of the loveliest red wines Ive tasted. Fruity and smooth with a nice aftertaste. I bought it at a really good price when it was on offer which makes it even better!
really lovely wine
This is a really lovely, tasty, heavy, but understated (I know, but its true) red. Its really reasonably priced. Everyone comments on how tasty it is. Definitely stockpiling it.
