Not sure if it is the same.
I tried this with my last order. It has been a while since I last purchased smoked makerel but it had been a regular for me. I'm not sure why, but this doesn't seem to be the same fish, although I have always grilled it, skin side up. It tastes fine, but the flesh seems to be softer, and less firm. It may be a failure of my memory, but I'm sure Morrisons also sold a Scottish smoked peppered mackerel and I'm sure now that this could have been the one I purchased as the packs were more expensive, and weighed more.
bought to make pate/dip
I only bought this to make my own pate/dip and its perfect for that. Fishy, fatty, very few bones, and produced fabulous results. Much more economical to make my own. Will def buy again. Good quality, moist and flavourful.
This is a useful addition to the fridge, great as a cold fillet with a salad to keep it simple, but just as good in a kedgeree. Ive even grilled it and served with new potatoes (with the windows wide open lol). Really good.
Worse than before
I've bought smoked mackerel for years but this has changed in last few weeks - the skin doesn’t peel off easily so you either lose flesh which can’t be separated from the skin or you have to eat the skin which is not tasty. it’s also much saltier than before. Yuck. What happened, Morrisons?
