Yum with salad in flour tortilla
I had this for the first time last night, stir fried for about 7 mins then with some sweet chilli sauce and it was so yummy. Has a texture and taste similar to beef burger. I've just ordered 4 more packs, going to try in a stew. I think for those who are carnivores, turned vegetarian its a great alternative. Its going to be part of my regular diet! Plus its high in protein!
The flavour not appropriate for all dishes
Although these look and almost have the same texture as meat, the flavour is not appropriate for use in Chinese dishes for instance. There is an overpowering Sage herb flavouring which clashes with several dishes. Would the manufacturer Fry's consider removing this herb to make these strips more usable in all cuisines please. Also the secret is not to cook these for as long as meat or it gets too jellied.
I tried these strips in a stir-fry, half a bag was plenty for two people. They are quite different from the usual meat substitutes. They look good when cooked, they brown nicely. They are subtly spicy and the texture is pleasant.
